ENTREMEIOS 2
Vila Mandaçaia
São Paulo 2022
If in the history of western art the landscape is usually the one whose observation takes place externally and passively, seen from afar, Entremeios 2 is an invitation for immersion in an urbanity that leads us to be simultaneously inside and out of it. The second version of the installation created by Lâmina (a collective formed by Gabriela De Laurentiis and João Mascaro), like the city itself, is subject to of multiple interpretations and appropriations. Seen from above, São Paulo reveals the impossibility of reading its plots. Labyrinthine, there is no photo capable of covering it as a whole, its dimensions are unreachable. When printed as a billboard, the panoramic view subverts the advertising language, which values fast, clear and direct messages. There is room for uncertainty, analysis, the slow ride. Experienced from within, the soundscape is made up of machinery from locomotion that denote a human presence in high levels of density and stress. Sounds that in everyday life are ignored due to the anesthetization of the senses, inevitable for survival in the city, gain a presence here irrefutable. Voices that perform aware of the presence of recorders complement the scene. It is also at street level that we come across helmets, uniforms, drones, vans, horses, vests, vehicles and truncheons. They are surveillance, control and punishment apparatus presented in the form of energy potential: there is not an action, but an imminence. Even when this is not materializes, it already performs its function. Contrary to how one deals with sounds, the many people's survival strategy is constant attention to their presence, be it subtle or overt. Despite the transparency of the layers of photoliths and projections, it emerges from superimposition of the sound materiality, of the fixation supports, of the sea of concrete and police ostentation the opacity of the metropolis.
